We are one of the largest car rental companies in Namibia and maintain a new fleet of motor vehicles for hire for trips through Namibia, Botswana, South Africa (incl. Swaziland and Lesotho), Mozambique and Malawi. Our team consists of over 40 employees from different cultures, lead by an international management team. Our set-up includes not only a fleet of impeccable 4×4 vehicles but also a complex of modern offices‚ a fully equipped workshop‚ a car wash and a tow-in service all centrally situated at our premises in the Southern Industrial Area of Windhoek, Namibia’s capital city.
Business
Asco Car Hire owns a fleet of more than 200 4×4 vehicles. We supply our clients with a new or very recent 4×4 vehicle, which is technically adapted to our exciting but often harsh African roads and tracks. All our vehicles are continually maintained to perfection and subject to a comprehensive service before we hand them over. We have special vehicles for the camping enthusiasts, which are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable camping trip in the wild. Unlimited mileage, double fuel tank, water tank, as well as bull and roll bars come standard with our 4×4 vehicles for extra safety.
Although Namibian roads (and southern African roads in general) are well maintained, most of them are gravel (or dirt) roads, often leading through beautiful but remote wildernesses and breathtaking but rugged terrain, only negotiable by 4×4. Many overseas visitors, while being experienced in driving on tarred roads, are not well acquainted with gravel and off-road driving. In order to help them anticipate what lies ahead, we advise clients extensively on how to handle the vehicle on our Namibian roads and offer our own excellent breakdown service, 24 hours 7 days a week.
Facilities
We have a complex of modern offices‚ and a fully equipped workshop with storage facilities for tyres‚ spare parts and camping equipment‚ a car wash and a tow-in service, all centrally situated on our premises at 195 Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue, Windhoek, Namibia.
History
Asco Car Hire was founded in 1990. Since then, the company has grown steadily and today owns a proud fleet of over 220 four-wheel drive vehicles.
Team
We are a staff of over 40 Namibian citizens with a dedicated team in our front offices and a fully equipped workshop manned by highly qualified and professional technicians.
Employee Benefits
All our employees are offered a competitive salary, transport allowance, health insurance through a group medical aid scheme and various training opportunities. Most of our employees choose to attend German courses at the Goethe Centre. We also offer computer training and bookkeeping courses for employees who need specific skills in their positions. Furthermore we offer to pay for driver’s theory and license tests. Our employees benefit from on-the-job training through occasional job rotation as well as industry relevant skills development training.
Internships
As a company active in the tourism sector we are in the position to offer training to students and have done so through our internship programme. Students from the Namibia University of Science and Technology and other local technical schools have served as interns at Asco Car Hire. The presence of an intern does not replace any temporary or full time job, rather, by working in this professional environment young people gain invaluable experience. It is important for us to be able to contribute in this way.
Environmental impact
We recognise that our industry has a direct effect on the local, regional and global environment. We are committed to reducing any harmful effects on the environment and promoting the understanding of sustainability in its broadest context. The Asco Car Hire office complex is fitted with solar panels which supply electricity to the building, as well as solar geysers. In the workshop we save water by making use of the Eco Car Wash system in our efforts to keep a clean fleet of 4×4 vehicles. What is normally a water intensive process is greatly reduced as the main ingredient in the Eco Car Wash system is a natural palm tree wax that is diluted in 1 litre of water providing enough of the product to clean both the interior and exterior of a vehicle. Along with these efforts we also contribute funds towards environmental sustainability through the Asco Car Hire Trust.
Asco Car Hire Trust
The Asco Car Hire Trust support projects and organisations that implement sustainable practices in the Namibian environment and tourism sector. We are a long-term sponsor of TOSCO (Tourism Supporting Conservation), a local non-profit organisation that links the tourism industry to conservation and research organisations. Asco Car Hire Trust also supports the Nanofasa Conservation Trust, a non-profit trust in Namibia that serves to uplift and empower the indigenous San communities living adjacent to conservation areas.
Affiliations
Asco Car Hire is registered with the Namibia Tourism Board and is a member of the Namibian Car Rental Association (CARAN). We have aligned our company objectives to those of the ‘National Sustainable Tourism Growth and Investment Promotion Strategy 2016-2026’ of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
